Euan Stirrat LLB (Hons), NP
Joined John Jackson & Dick in 1976, partner in 1978, and Senior Partner since 1997
Over 30 years experience in Commercial Property and Leasing transactions, for both landlords & tenants, in offices, shops, factories, hotels & licensed premises. Often transacts through pension SIPP's and SSAS's. Formerly accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Commercial Property Leasing. Member of Law Society’s Professional Conduct Committee. . Handles purchases and sales of multi-million £ businesses, both share and asset transactions, MBO's, restructuring, and associated matters. Transactions include sale of a major chain of convenience stores; a motor main dealership with attendant re-structuring; pharmacy chain; demerger of a property company; joint-venture and subsequent sale of a bio-technology company; purchases and sales of insurance broking company, engineering and packaging companies; MBO of bio-technology company from a plc; property part of a major sale to a plc; professional practices including engineers, dentists, opticians, and accountants; hotels, pubs, and restaurants; and all types of retail businesses. Can deal with associated work in licensing, employment, intellectual property, etc. Frequently instructed to revise or prepare trading contracts.
Formerly handled a wide variety of work, including conveyancing, criminal trials and civil litigation. Still directs policy on difficult court actions, including Court of Session, recently concluding several. Previous experience in litigation includes reported cases, in licensing, health & safety, pension division in divorce, and interest on damages. Rare among commercial lawyers in having practical experience of litigation.
User of IT to improve business efficiency, service, and communications. Enjoys practising law and new challenges, and has a 'can do' attitude to tight deadlines. Recognises that clients are entitled to high standards of expertise, delivered efficiently, professionally and courteously, at fair cost.
Kenneth Miller LLB, NP
After several years with major firms in Edinburgh, joined John Jackson & Dick in 1984, and assumed as partner 1985. Originally trained in commercial property and security work, and still handling some, but now in charge of the firm’s substantial domestic conveyancing practice, covering offices in Hamilton and Strathaven. Works closely with the firm’s successful estate agency department. Also handles site acquisition and sales for builder/developers, and property security work for bank clients.
David Darroch LLB, Dip.LP, NP
Formerly with J.B. Soutter, Son & Main, Solicitors, Hamilton from 1983, and a Partner there from 1986, joined John Jackson & Dick in 1995, and was appointed a Partner in 1997. Unfortunately, due to ill-health in late 2011, he has had to retire prematurely as a Partner, but remains a Consultant and intends to return on a part-time basis when his health permits.
Concentrates mainly on commercial property transactions, after many years of experience in Private Client work. Constantly handling purchases, sales & leases of factories, shops and offices. An interest in pensions has led to significant amount of work for SIPP’s & SSAS’s. Negotiated a number of franchise deals. Many of his long-term clients have grown their businesses, and the firm has developed expertise to handle their ever more-demanding needs. Handles high-value domestic conveyancing tranactions.
Pauline Milligan LLB (Hons) DipLP NP
Associate - qualified solicitor in Scotland 1994, also England 1998, and as Barrister & Solicitor in New Zealand 2005. Formerly in-house solicitor with a major insurance company, then Associate with Dundas & Wilson handling banking, regulatory and compliance work, and almost three years in New Zealand as general practitioner. Joined JJ&D in 2007 to head Private Client Department, handling Inheritance Tax and estate planning, Trusts and investments with associated taxation planning, and advising on administration of assets of elderly and incapacitated clients, with enduring financial & welfare Powers of Attorney and applications for appointment of Guardians.
Maud Lithgow LLB, DipLP
Maud Lithgow has joined the Firm in February 2012 as a litigation solicitor. Maud had a considerable managerial career in commerce and industry in her native Sweden, including a long period with a major multi-national, but after settling in Scotland she studied law and qualified here. Her earlier management training and commercial experience, allied to her more recent training in Scots law, ensures that she is able to offer very sound, practical advice. With previous firms she has had a wide range of litigation experience, including family, insolvency, personal accident, and commercial actions.
Lorraine Kelly LLB, DipLP
Lorraine has been working with the Firm as a locum solicitor since March 2012, primarily as a litigation solicitor. She was formerly a paralegal in a variety of areas of legal work, but went on to qualify as a solicitor and therefore brings to her work not only her academic training, but also many years of practical expereince.
