John Jackson & Dick: a law firm with a difference. Legal solutions for individuals and families. And also great advice on company and commercial law. The highest professional service - with a friendly face and the personal touch.

Founded in 1933, we have offices at the heart of the Lanarkshire towns of Hamilton and Strathaven. Since then, we have earned, and work hard to retain, a reputation envied by many other law firms for providing high-quality personal legal services: residential conveyancing, Inheritance Tax and asset protection advice, wills, trusts and executries; divorce and family law; civil court and employment representation.

But we are also proud to offer company and commercial law services at a level normally only available from much larger city firms.

Relaxed, friendly and accessible - whatever your legal problem, we have the skills, expertise and experience to provide the solution.

Covid 19 Measures

Update 13 September 2021

During the 16 month period of Covid pandemic restrictions, in compliance with government directives we operated successfully with minimum staff in our offices, and most staff working from home. Since August 2021, most staff have returned to our office. Following the acquisition and refurbishment of additional premises at 50 Cadzow Street, we have sufficient space for our staff to maintain social distancing, and client meeting rooms can be isolated from staff areas. Infection control equipment and practices continue to operate in our offices, to safeguard both our staff and anybody visiting our offices.

New Office & Expansion

Following the successful integration of long-established Motherwell firm, Marshall Ross & Munro into John Jackson & Dick since November 2018, the closure by Royal Bank of its branch at 50 Cadzow Street presented an unique opportunity for John Jackson & Dick. Since the 1950's, we had shared our buildings with RBS. We acquired the premises in late 2019, then extensive renovation and alterations took several months. Work was completed on 23 March 2020, just as the first Covid lockdown was announced, so for over a year we had to keep the doors locked. It is now fully open and is our main entrance, reception and meeting area. Ground floor entrance and rooms allow much improved access for disabled and elderly clients. Energy-efficient systems, including solar electricity, have been installed, to reduce our carbon footprint.

Ground Floor Ground floor reception area and offices

Our 3 Bridge Street, Strathaven office had to remain closed during restrictions but it too has resumed, and we shall be adding more solicitors to deal with client business there.

Contrary to economic predictions, since summer of 2020 we have been busier than ever before, and we continue to seek new solicitors and support staff to increase capacity in most areas of our business, particularly commercial law and property, residential property, and private client law.

Charles Bow, who joined us as a Consultant from Marshall Ross & Munro, fully retired in October 2020. His retirement coincided with that of Kenneth Miller, after 36 years as a Partner then Director of John Jackson & Dick. Kenneth has anchored our residential conveyancing service for most of that period, in both Hamilton and Strathaven. They are both enjoying their well-earned retirements, and remain in contact with us to provide continuity.
