Robert Ferguson & Sons, Solicitors, Hamilton Merger Announcement

Robert Ferguson & Sons, Solicitors, Hamilton Merger Announcement

John Jackson & Dick are pleased to announce that, with effect from 4 September 2023, the long-established law firm of Robert Ferguson & Sons, 7 Gateside Street, Hamilton is merging with JJD, and relocating to JJD’s office at 48-50 Cadzow Street, Hamilton ML3 DT.

Earlier this year Robert Ferguson & Sons celebrated its 100th anniversary.  For many years it was carried on by the founder’s sons, Alex and Tom Ferguson, both well-known and respected in the local community and legal profession.  Fiona Bryson joined the firm in 1984 and, following the retirements of the Ferguson brothers, continued to build upon the excellent reputation of the firm, which has many clients of long-standing.

As Fiona notes: “When I decided to retire my main objective was to find a local firm I trusted to look after my clients and allow me to retire in the knowledge that my firm would be in safe hands. My first choice was John Jackson & Dick as I believe that they have a very similar approach and outlook to Robert Ferguson & Sons.  I know I can retire in the knowledge that my clients will be very well looked after and as a much larger firm John Jackson & Dick will be able to offer many more services to my clients than I could as a sole practitioner.  I am certain that you will find the partners and staff of John Jackson & Dick to be the people to trust with your future legal business.  I would like to thank you for all of your business during my time at Robert Ferguson & Sons.”

Robert Ferguson & Sons clients’ documents and current files are being moved to JJD’s secure storage facilities at 48-50 Cadzow Street, Hamilton, and older files will be stored either there or in a specialist external archive store.

John Jackson & Dick was itself formed in 1933 from a merger by John Jackson of two much older Hamilton law firms.  Thomas B Dick was training with one of those firms, subsequently qualified as a solicitor, and on his assumption as a partner the name was amended to John Jackson & Dick.  Over the decades, it has acquired several other practices, notably in 1997 when it opened its office in Strathaven, and in 2018 when the former large Motherwell firm of Marshall Ross & Munro transferred its clients to JJD.  JJD has always endeavoured to provide a high standard of service and legal expertise, and has consistently invested and reinvested in advanced technology to ensure good, quick communications with clients and efficient delivery of service.
